What is hypnotherapy?
Simply put, hypnosis is a level of awareness in which positive
suggestions are given to achieve one’s goals. It is a perfectly natural state
which occurs between being fully awake and fully asleep. In a therapeutic setting,
hypnosis is a very pleasant and relaxing experience. In this pleasant and relaxed state
your hypnotherapist is able to suggest areas of beneficial
change. The hypnotic
state enables unconscious processing of ideas and acceptance of
change much faster than is usually possible in a fully conscious
state. > |

Most people have experienced an altered state of
awareness in every day life. For example: have you ever driven
along on a journey you complete regularly and arrived safely, but
been unaware of every gear change along the way? Do you become so involved when
reading a book that you can see the characters in your mind and
hear them speak? If so,
then you have already experienced this similar level of awareness
to that used in hypnotherapy.
What can be treated with
hypnotherapy?
A wide range of conditions can be helped using
hypnosis. Self esteem can
be increased, freedom from fears and phobias realised,
distressing feelings such as anxiety and panic attacks can be
brought under control and deep seated habits and compulsions can
be removed. People can
improve motivation and boost self confidence, perform to the best
of their ability in exams and driving tests, reduce the symptoms
of allergies, reduce pain, be more in control and make childbirth
easier, control their weight, learn to manage stress, and
maximise sports performance. A whole host of other issues can be
helped using hypnosis including IBS and dentistry nerves.
Can
hypnotherapy help me to stop smoking?
Hypnotherapy is very
successful in helping people to quit smoking. Both Sue and Gill
offer a special ONE session Stop Smoking Therapy. Please contact either Sue at Cygnet
Hypnotherapy or Gill at Cygnet Life – details and links to
websites.
Is it
safe?
Hypnotherapy is completely natural and safe. There are no
harmful side effects.
When administered by a professionally trained and skilled
hypnotherapist the benefits are long lasting and often
permanent.
Will I
be in control?
It is important to note that no one can be hypnotised against
their will and no one can be forced to do things whilst under
hypnosis that they do not want to do.
Will I
reveal my innermost secrets under hypnosis?
You cannot be made to reveal secrets when under hypnosis. In fact because you are aware
of everything going on this can’t happen – and you
could lie just as easily as you could tell the
truth. >
Will you have power over me once I am
hypnotised?
Because of certain stage hypnotists, many people think
that hypnosis is somehow a surrender of will, in which the client
will submit to the power of the hypnotist. As hypnosis is a subjective
experience, nothing could be further from the truth. It is important to stress that the
client is capable of making decisions at all times.
Will I
be unconscious?
Some people believe that when hypnotised they are unconscious
– this is not so – hypnosis is a way of helping
people to feel very relaxed and to respond to positive ideas and
suggestions that are going to help them.
You will not be unconscious because you
will be aware of what is going on around you. In fact hypnosis can be described
as a state of mind in which suggestions are acted upon much more
powerfully than is possible under normal conditions.
Many people believe inaccurately that
being in a hypnotic trance is just like being asleep. However, just as you are more aware
when listening attentively, you are more alert when listening in
a trancelike state. In
some ways hypnosis is no more than a relaxed, highly focused
state of attention. In
trance you experience feelings of wellbeing, muscle relaxation,
increased pain tolerance and an ability to accept new ideas about
yourself if they are worded properly and are not in conflict with
your personal value system.
Will I
get stuck in trance?
Some people are afraid that once hypnotised they will never come
out of their trance.
Since the client actually induces the trance themselves they can
just as easily revive themselves if necessary. The worst that
could occur is that someone would fall asleep – and you
always wake up don’t you?
Is the service
confidential?
Your hypnotherapist will respect the rules of confidentiality
and demonstrate integrity in her dealings with you. All your personal details, the
nature of the problem and your identity will remain
confidential.
How
long will it take to see results?
This question can only be answered after detailed consultation
with your hypnotherapist when all factors surrounding the issue
can be taken into consideration. However, good results are usually
obtainable in a matter of weeks not
months.
I
understand there are benefits to using hypnotherapy for
birthing?
This is correct;
women’s post-natal physical and mental health can be
influenced by their birthing experience. Many women are frightened of giving
birth, whether it is their first time or they have experienced
distress during a past labour. Using hypnosis, it is possible to
reduce the stress of the birth and invoke a calm focused state,
enabling the mother to take more control during her labour and
reduce any discomfort.
Hypnosis can reduce and in some cases do away with fear and
pain. Hypnosis produces
feelings of calmness, shortens the time spent in labour,
significantly reduces the need for medication, improves post
natal recovery and creates wonderfully positive emotions and
feelings for both mother and baby. >
Our sister company Cygnet Birthing has
developed a unique, innovative and inspirational course during
which they coach women so that they are able to use hypnosis to
confidently listen to their body and induce states of calm whilst
being in charge of their labour. >
Their mission is to support and empower
pregnant women of all ages from all walks of life to take control
of their individual birthing experience. To focus on a woman’s unique
ability to have a positive birth experience, ensuring that she
has the freedom and understanding to give birth in the way in
which she desires. >
Courses can be taken over a four week
period of evening sessions or alternatively over one
weekend. Participation on
a Cygnet Birthing course will give you the information and
preparation you need to have a relaxed, calm, happy and inspired
birth experience. Click
